8 week Australorp-

8 week old Australorp. I have two and one is obviously roo but I was hoping this one was a girl. These red wattles are making me wonder. Is this a boy?

I'm thinking pullet. I would expect a cockerel would have a huge comb that was dark pink to red at this point.

I have one that looks just like that! I'm thinking it's going to be a late blooming cockerel based on the way it acts, and because all my pullets are fully feathered out at this point and this one still has the white like yours and my for sure cockerels. May just have to give it a few more weeks, I'm still holding out hope mine is a pullet.

The BA does look like a cockerel. I think your mix might be a pullet. Give them a week or two and post again!

Pullets.
Don't worry about the back feathers at this age. They aren't old enough to have the male or female feather's your looking for. That won't happen until 12 weeks old or so.

Unless there's a late bloomer, I think they're pullets.
