I have an 8 almost 9 week EE pullet that has had a bubbly Eye since about two weeks old. We separated her immediately and started anabiotic‘s in her water. We have also tried vet RX and an anabiotic ointment for her eye. We ran the anabiotics approximately three weeks and nothing has helped. She’s perfectly healthy growing and eating and acting as if nothing at all is wrong. Any ideas?

Has it been 2 or 3 weeks? Have you seen any other symptoms, such as sneezing, nasal drainage, or crackly breathing? It is very good to hear that she is feeling fine, and eating well. What is the name of the antibiotic you are using? Hopefully the others won’t get sick.

She has been separated for about 6 weeks. No other birds showing symptoms. She does sneeze sometimes and the drainage from the eye has caused some loss of feathers from around the eye. We ran about 3 weeks of oxytetracycline HCI and have used Vt RX and even tried terramycin ointment on her eye.

That is a long time for symptoms to go on. That is also a long time for medicines. I would try to reintegrate her slowly back into the flock. Being separated so long may be a challenge, and she may need to be kept near them in a crate with food and water with supervised visits.

Fresh air, good ventilation, preventing wet spots or mold, and preventing overheating are helpful in preventing respiratory diseases. Hopefully, her bubbly eye is just something physiologic and not infectious. I had a hen who would get foamy eyes sometimes during cold weather which would clear up the same day. She never had other symptoms.
