8 week old Buffs!

The tails are a bit "raggedy" - sometimes it seems that a young male has a more "raggedy" appearance in the saddle/tail area prior to getting actual saddle feathers. But, its not a definitive trait. The actual saddle feathers will show up around 12+ weeks old. In comparison to the others, which have rounded hen feathering. I've never had a male BO, this is our first year with BO (all female) and they are 18 weeks old. At 8 weeks, males of many breeds will show some definite differences in comb and wattle growth and color as compared to the females of the same age, and I'm not seeing such distinct differences in these. But, I've never had a male BO! So, keep your eyes on them, but by end of July, you should know for sure!

Thank you so much!!

Lucky you, they're so cute! I got 2 straight runs and ended up with 2 roos. At 8 weeks mine had very red wattles and combs. I'm keeping one, and my friend is taking one :)

I have had buffs for quite a while now, they're my main breed.
I absolutely agree the boys seem to have more ragged tails. But they would have saddle feathers by now, and they are a fast developing breed. Doesn't do any harm to still keep an eye out though. But I am confident they are all beautiful pullets.
Unlucky you not getting any boys. BO boys are the sweetest things going. :D

We SO wanted a Buff roo for them!! We can't have roos in city limits but they're out in the country! :(
