8 week old chick has bloody poop

I also want to add that you can add a container of your soil, or clumps of grass with dirt to your chick brooder as soon as a few days old to prevent coccidiosis in the future. My chicks started pecking in the container of soil and dust bathing in it right away. This gradually makes them immune to your local coccidia strain. Chicks raised by hens rarely ever get coccidiosis and it’s due to this gradual exposure.
Thank you for that info. We had them outside in the grass every day for about 2 weeks but this week we had them in the coop and I think the dirt floor along with the poop from the older chickens may have been too much.

I’ve been googling but have conflicting info coming up. Does anyone know if my two small breed dogs can get this from trying to eat the scraps the chickens have been munching on lately?

I'd continue with the Corid, but with that much blood, I would get a sulfa drug like SMZ-TMP or use Toltrazuril to treat the Coccidiosis.

For the worst chicks, I would direct drench them with undiluted Corid at a rate of 0.10ml per pound of weight for 3 days. This is in addition to you syringing the mixed Corid water into them as much as you can throughout the day to keep them hydrated.

I'm sorry that you lost one, you have looked at vents to make sure there's no injury or vent picking right?

Not sure what's going with the funny sounds, if you have video that would be good. Upload video to youtube and provide a link. Your adults may have respiratory illness that is going through the flock, hard to know. I'd look inside beaks for lesions to be sure it's not something like canker.

Coccidia is species specific, so the strains of Coccidia that cause infection (Coccidiosis) in poultry are not the same strains that would infect your dog.

Thanks everyone for the help! All 7 of my remaining chicks made it through the night. The olive egger chick I separated was still losing blood last night but her poops were becoming less bloody and more like normal, and I gave her medicated water through a syringe twice yesterday evening. My husband said she was pecking around for food this morning when he checked on her.

I’m going to town later and I’ll see if I can find the sulfa drug. It’s funny because I’m personally allergic to those drugs. If they don’t have those, I’ll be grabbing the liquid corid so I can give the individual .10 doses. I only have the powder form right now.

You don't have to have the liquid to give a direct oral drench.

If using 20% powder, then mix 1/2tsp powder with 2tsp water. Dose the chick with 0.34ml per pound of weight of this solution once a day for 3 days.

I’m having a hard time finding sulfa drugs that aren’t a pill form. Would they be okay if I just continued the corid through day 7?

The chicks all made it through the night again according to my husband. I’ll be changing their water again in a few minutes, and observing how the poop is changing.
