8 week old chick with sour crop. How do I treat it?

You can use her chick feed (chick starter) - make it into a mash. Small amount of feed + warm water, let soak for about 15 minutes. I would make it sort of soupy.

How much - is the crop emptying at all, is she pooping? I would probably let her eat what she wants of the wet food. See if she's pooping. Hopefully the Miconazole will make a big difference.

Just fed her this morning the scrambled eggs, grit, & probiotic yogurt combo. Her crop was way better this morning. It was about the size of a silver dollar last night. This morning almost completely flat! Still a little bit of squishy in there though. She ate quite a bit & took her meds. Her crop feels normal now. No squishy/balloony feel at all. Plus she is way more alert, vocal, & mobile then she’s been for a few days. She’s pooping but it was only runny yellow. I let her have water but no food for 1st 2 days. I read that that’s what I needed to do. This is only the second day of her “meds” & already I can see an improvement. I want to hold off on the mashed feed though. I’m worried that it might feed the yeast that’s still in there. Will give her that stuff tomorrow if her crop has continued to improve. She’s such a sweetheart.

Glad the crop is emptying better!

I would omit the grit if you have been giving that to her. Finish the out the 7 days of Monistat 2 times a day though, that is very important.

Is the inside of the beak clearing up too?

Yes. Checked her crop tonight & it felt like a normal crop. She also pooped a good solid one this evening. Looked normal & not runny. That feels so weird talking about poop like this. She’s doing way better. She now comes right up to me & climbs onto my hand for cuddles. She’s so patient & sweet. Just lets me feel her crop & massage it. She likes to fall asleep in our arms as long as we pet her.

Sounds like she's doing better!

LOL You will find that poop is a lot of times the main discussions, especially in the ER threads.
It is one thing that I and others usually ask about - even photos! There's articles on poop too!
Sometimes poop can tell you quite a bit.

Great news! Her crop this morning was completely flat & normal again! She ran right up to me & jumped up onto my hand asking for pets. She stood completely still & took her meds with no problem.

when should I allow her to eat her normal food again? And when should she be ok to go back out with the rest of the flock?

I would get her eating her normal food today and see how well that works.
Also getting her back to the flock would be good - continue with your course of treatment and monitor the crop.
Hopefully you won't have any re-introduction problems.

Thank you. I feel much better thanks to everyone’s advice. Will keep giving her the meds twice daily till the full 7 days are up. Will let her out with the flock tomorrow. She’s eating regular feed right now just fine. Her crop feels normal. She’s happy again.
