8 week old SS pullet or cock?

I'm 100% positive that's a pullet! Look at her long tail. Male SS's have shorter stumpy tails with much larger combs. My SS pullet actually has a larger comb then yours and has been pink for a while.

She looks like a pullet to me b/c she is lacking with all the white on her chest like a cockrel would have. And the size of her comb is to low and not as pronounced as my cockrel boys tend to get. I hope this helps and keep us posted

P.S. I find my SS's are always more mature in the comb and wattles than some of my other breeds so do not let it bother you to much. The other thing you can do is look at her saddle feather and see if they are pointy or more flat rounded. Pointy is a cockrel and flat rounded is a pullet.

I have dislexia so I hope I got that right

Thank you for everyone advice. The speckled sussex's do seem to be getting more pronounced comb and wattles compared to other chicks (see the welsummer next to SS in last photo and the buff orp in first photo, not much comb). I do hope she is a she! I would love a rooster but my neighbors may complain! A lot of white on the chest of a speckled sussex is another indicator of a roo?

We have a SS hen, and her growth had us wondering at times. I vote pullet. (You can check out some of her photos on our BYC page.)

Mark & Nique, I checked out your BYC page and it does give me hope she may be a girl! Your chicks are pretty. How old was your SS when she layed her first egg?

Yes I've seen my boys get alot more white on their chest compared to the girls. I know everyone is going to say she is a he. But, if they breed and raise them, they would know these guys mature different than other breeds. No worries I promise

Here was my little guy at 5 weeks. I think I am starting to agree that you have a pullet! Hmmmm.....either that or mine was. Haha. I gave mine away as a roo through craiglist to a lovely lady who need a rooster for her gals. I hope he is really a he! : )
