8 week pullet eye looking funky

Just to chime in with my experience, fowl pox has really irritated the eyes of my flock this year. I’ve had 5 pullets with scabby eyes so bad they’ve had one closed and I’ve treated them with neosporin to cushion the cornea from the scabs scraping against it. As soon as the scabs have gone, there are no more bubbles so I don’t think it’s mycoplasma, my flock also had no respiratory symptoms.

My flock gets fowl pox every year but it seems their symptoms are much worse this time, and it’s later in the season than usual.

Thanks for the input!

I've had fowl pox a few times before, but not like this. I thought another older pullet had a beak injury, but I'm thinking it was pox now. Most the other obviously affected birds are cockerels and it's predominately on their combs and wattles.

I'm relieved only one has wet pox so far, that I can tell. And I can only tell because I'm handling her. The last bird I had with wet pox was two years ago and she barely survived and was visually impaired afterwards.

The eye looks to have a corneal abrasion from the pox. That might benefit from the triple antibiotic ointment as well. There is a vaccine for birds not yet exposed to fowl pox in places like where you live. Most birds that get pox, are immune to getting it in the future. Here is where to purchasethe pox vaccine, and scroll down to Label Information to read about how and when to give it:
