Hello! We picked up some eggs from a neighbor with multiple roos when our Ferdie went broody. We have only one chick out of that endeavor and have never had a cockerel so I'm just not sure. Though I am pretty sure s/he's got Maran genes.

Hubby and I are on the cockerel train: 1) he sounds like his lungs are massive when separated from his momma for long enough, and 2) the undefined arching tail. The kids are in the pullet train: 1) no crowing, and 2) minimal color to comb/waddle, and 3) no saddle/hackle feathers.

Please post photos of the bird in question. Post a photo of the head in profile clearly showing the comb and if over 12 weeks of age photos of the saddle area which is the area at the base of the tail.😊

Sorry, didn’t wait for photos! This bird appears to be female. Comb Is very small.😊
Shape of tail doesn’t mean anything. It is the saddle feathers that are important but this bird is too young to show any.
Appears to be a barred rock or some mix of one.

The phone was taking it's time uploading them :) It's gonna be rough waiting a whole month to see saddle feathers or not, I've already struggled to get to 8 weeks before posting :gig

Attempted profile shots. Minimal waddles and comb. 9 weeks old tomorrow.
