8 year old jungle fowl swollen ear lopes

I know that others on here have said that neosporin with any type of -'caine' ingredient can be harmful to chickens. My vet, who does do poultry, often recommends Bag balm for infections as well as an ingested type of antibiotic.

Tylan 50 from TSC is often given for respitory infections, injected into breast muscle. Baytril if you can get it is very good for pet chickens. Also warm Epsom salt compresses does wonders for infection. Sorry you are having to go through this, Best Wishes

Hi

Isis is IMPROVING! Her right ear/sinis is also back to normal. Still not out of the woods with the left side.BUT it's much better.

I have her on hydro perox soaks w warm water 2 X a day, clean out any yellow infection(which there is less and less of) and top it off with neopsporon and 4 days ago I started liquid Baytril 2X a day. She's actually good about taking this.

She if it gets cold at night we have the lamp on for warmth and hay and a small blanket for her.

She is very active now and vet says 3 more weeks with the Baytril.

Hi

She's not out of the woods yet but she is much much better. The vet that has been giving me direction and the antibiotics said it's critical to keep her warm so I have a heat lamp on for her and he also said she's not out of the woods yet. Said baytril for a month.

Her sinus are down to just tiny holes BUT there is still some puffy swelling so I am learning as I go and take out any infection I can see at the beginning of the hole which is hard and keep the area open and ointment on it so nothing goes in.

I was watching them after I gave her antibiotics and checked her sinus's and she ate and had a drink. She's not loosing any weight and the other hens and rooster all seems to be ok with her. At night she does fly up to her roost with the others.

Hi

The battle continues. Still on baytril and back to neosporin 2 x a day. Isis is much better but not 100%. Still has some swelling right ears worse than left. Baytrils to be given for another 2 weeks.

Fourfeathers how long did it take your bird to be ok?

Two times a day I give her baytril and then I take sterilzed toothpicks ( very carefull take off what's on the outside) and open up the scabs and take out any yellow chessy stuff. so it drains and heals from the inside out Much less than it was for sure but still there.

She is very good and is still like a statue and at times closes her eyes when I take a plug out. She's eating, drinking and flys up to roost at night.
