Thanks...(i didn't know what to say, thanks or what? lol) I guess it was just natures course... i had another chick die in the incubator a week or so ago..both eggs were from a older molting hen....not a good choice of eggs, i guess

Moved my chicks from the small 29 gal plastic brooder to a 110 gal rubber trough brooder. Will use the smaller one for my NYC Hatch chicks. So happy to get the older babies into something bigger!

On supplements, I also like to use sav-a-chick for the first day or so, maybe with a little honey if a few are lagging. Seems to give them a boost and help them recover from the hatching experience a little faster. Most of mine are shipped eggs and need all the extra TLC they can get. (With local eggs I don't always supplement.) Love my brooder plate and that the chicks get light/dark cycles from the beginning.

Hope to hear lots of hatching success and see lots of pics over the next few days!

I posted this in another thread, but thought I'd post here as well....

One of my Silkies hatched last night. She zipped, then seemed to get stuck, and couldn't get the shell off. After more than an hour, I used tweezers to help her. The membrane was completely dry where she had zipped and her feathers had dried to it in some places and I had to help her get it off. So far she is the only one (out of 4) to hatch (and I'm starting to worry about the others...). It's nearly 7pm now and she hatched out at 1am and she's still sticky (no yellow goo, but quite dry and crusty- not fluffy).

I just took her out of the incubator and put her in the brooder and she's not walking right. She's not standing on 2 legs, but rather kind of shuffling along. She seems alert and very 'cheepy.'

Anything I can do to help her?
