Hi Kassaundra..haven't seen you in a while. I used to go over to the NN thread. I should go over and show off my new baby..ahem..girl. It's a girl don't ya know! :p

I know, this is a SG..one of mine. I love me a SG or NN.

Beautiful! Gotta love a naked necked chicken and even more if she has dark skin and white feathers.

Hm... Don't know yet if we're going anywhere for Chritmas or my birthday (the 28th), and raccoons got my will-adopt-anything broody, as well as my hens that have gone broody but not been tested, so I'd have to brood myself. And I'd want to get local eggs to test my theory that the post office is the reason I've not had great hatches.

TLDR: I think I'll just lurk for now...

Sorry to hear about your chickens. I love the northern Calif coast. So beautiful.

I think I am going to get some Trader Joes eggs! I know, you may ask, why are you so excited? Because. They will cost less, and they won't have to fly here. Have a son, that will be picking some up for me. They have a Trader Joe's place nearer to them than me..and..it's an excuse for us to see each other. Now, I'm just hoping that these eggs are fertile. Told him the cartons should be marked..fertile. Hope this works..maybe I should get three doz.

Do you know how understand the date? I have the info somewhere.

Not sure?

Ok, found this...

Many eggs reach stores only a few days after the hen lays them. Egg cartons with the USDA grade shield on them, indicating they came from a USDA-inspected plant, must display the ‘pack date’ (the day that the eggs were washed, graded, and placed in the carton). The number is a three-digit code that represents the consecutive day of the year (the ‘Julian Date’) starting with January 1 as 001 and ending with December 31 as 365.
