Yes, solid floor 3/4 or so of the top to store straw bales. I have wondered if they will be able to get up there. It's a good 6' up from the floor. If they manage to figure it out I can revisit keeping them down then. I would like the ridge vents to be either below the storage or have the solid part of the floor end before it gets to the wall/roof. Coupla could be off center to be more above the open section.

That would help, air could come in eaves and go out ridge vent and/or cupola, as long as bales aren't pressed against roof blocking flow...floor and bales would still inhibit pulling stale air from below.
A ridge vent only goes on the ridge of roof(apex of upper roof planes).

They will get up there, they can fly 6' easy. I'd suggest making the remainder of floor/ceiling plane a mesh(chicken wire) trap door to keep them out but still give you access when needed. Will have to get creative with framing and hinges.

The top portion is a panel that can open independent of the whole door...revealing hardware cloth covered opening.....when closed the clear plexi window still allows light

Right now I have two bales in my garage. Three in the coop. Current coop is a simple tractor with three sides around the roost. When I screen the eves I could probably extend it to block the bales from getting too close. Or add some scrap wood from rafters to the loft floor. That would keep the kids from carelessly pushing the bales to close. Teens do tend to forget things.
I meant eves, I was tired last night.

My current birds are heavy and probably will never try, might be an issue with future chicks. I think if I have the side supports extend the whole length I could add a scuttle type screen later if needed. Thanks.

Sorry I could have sworn I came back and answer this the same night and apparently I did not. Yes the screen part does open with the rest of the door. No you do not have to close the upper part you can open the rest of the door with the upper part pinned back in the open position.

It's designed so that when the upper portion is opened for ventilation it is held back by a hook and eye so that it does not blow around. If it weren't clipped yes it would Bang around in the wind. Clipping it out of the way also prevents it from being an issue for entering and exiting the co-op when you open the rest of the door.

I can try to get some clear photos of the interior for you. Are there particular elements that you are intrested in?

The poop boards are 24" in the above. I was wondering about centering, is 12" far enough from the wall?

In my coop layout post in this forum, aart said that 12" was fine if you just had hens. When folks need more than 12" is when they have rooster(s) (due to the extra room for their tail feathers) in their flocks. She mentioned that 24" wide board and roost bar centered 8-10 inches above the board caught just about all the poo. Hope that helps! I had the same question when setting up mine, and I had seen info suggesting more, but never thought that it was due to roosters like aart pointed out. Good luck with your build!

I would love to see how the hardware cloth is attached. Also can you ask your husband what the sizes of the wood are if he remembers? It looks like 1X4 for the frame and 3/4 or 1/2" plywood for the center part?
