9 week old EE's

Here are our 2 EE chicks, both are supposed to be pullets. EE2 seems to be sprouting some pointy neck feathers. No crowing so far and both combs are still yellow.

First 4 pics are present day back to 4 days old in reverse order. As babies, EE1 was brown and EE2 was yellow with a pattern.

After those pictures are side/top closeups of each chick as of this week.

First, this age is pretty young to be getting hackle feathers.
Second, EE are famous of optical illusions with their coloring. The pattern on the feather makes it look pointed, but if you take the feather and lay it against your hand or a sheet of paper, you see the feather itself is rounded, not pointed.

It can be deceptive, that's for sure! I agree, pullets. I have one, Dumb Daphne the Flock Complainer, that I swore was a roo with those pointy looking feathers. Nope, she's a girl
