9 year old child charged in shooting..

I think it is overlooked as to why he brought the gun to start with? what is going on in the mind of a nine year old whom finds it neccessary to run away, and fearful enough to bring a loaded gun from his moms house? the mother not only put her childs life at risk..and others. if he was desperate enough to run away without understanding or having the ability to plan, thinking the only safety he had was what he knew of in the form of the gun kept at home, and with al the glammor associated through media (keeping him safe) I believe that the full responsibility must be on the gun owners plate. this boy needs care just as the little girl does. why the mom had it available, loaded and no lock on it, especially nowdays just baffles me. while the little girl is focused, understandably and rightfully so with attention, this boy is a victim too. his mother should be charged...

I think the meth mom should be charged. The boy did not take the gun to school to kill his teacher or classmates. If he had taken it for THAT intention then I could see charging him. Unfortunately he just made a really poor choice, was taught nothing about gun safety, and a girl is suffering for that mistake. The gun owner should be charged for leaving it out and loaded.

I have a nine year old boy. He is not capable of making a decision on guns. The kids see them on TV and they see people get killed in movies. Then, the character is back in another movie. The consequences aren't real to them. Add that to an unstable home life and a situation where a loaded gun is easily accessible to a CHILD, it spells trouble. The parents should be punished and the child should be pit someplace he can feel safe. He already has to live with this forever.

Prosecutor announced this morning that his intent is to seek probation and treatment without any criminal liability.

I am very glad to hear this!

To lock this child up would serve no good purpose. All that would do is take what is probably just an unhappy, confused and frightened child, and force him into the company of some really scary minds. Eventually, he would be released on society with a whole new skill set.
