I have eggs hatching tonight and I'm really worried about one of them. He hatched about 30 mins ago and his umbilical cord is still attached. He is pulling and squirming around trying to get it off. Now something seems to be protruding. I can't open the bator because none of the chicks are dry and I have other pips. Has anyone ever seen this? Poor little guy is chirping a lot.

It is normal for the umbilicus to be lightly attached to shell, usually within hours it will disconnect from the chicks movement. Can you send a pic without opening the bator? It's hard to tell what is protruding but nothing should be protruding and the belly should be swollen. Sometimes the " belly button" is also swollen but should be closed.

It has turned black. I think ed I panicked for nothing. It was only my second incubation. I still have 5 in the bator that didn't hatch, here are the others.

Adorable. What are they? When they first hatch they look half dead and exhausted so it can be scary!
