Well, I candled last night. WAY to many blanks.. :barnie tossed 12 I think? And I'm pretty confident I have 6-7 more, but I just wasn't 100% positive so I left them and intend to recheck them in a few more days. :fl I also have one Very dark Maran egg in there, but I have no idea how to see through it? What do I do? I'm scared to just leave it, if its infertile or a quitter.. at what point do they explode?!
And thanks to all the enablers encouragers on here, I went ahead and tossed in 9 more eggs to fill up my empty spots and try my hand at a staggered hatch..

Bummer. My bator was 2° low this morning and I was wondering exactly how long it had been that way as well. Probably all night I would assume considering I candled about midnight. Ugh. I hope al the babies are ok! Yours too!

N.E.V.E.R. E.N.O.U.G.H. I have a 3month old and a 24month old. I cant think straight!

Ouch! I'm sorry! Ice Ice Ice!
Keep an eye on them. They do not usually expolode but will seep.

Use the sniff test. They smell like sulfur.

I hope the remaining eggs do well!

I haven’t had one explode inside the incubator yet. I would think if it were fresh to start you’ll be ok leaving it till lockdown or longer. The headlamp I have improvises as a candle when I’m hatching. I took a piece of insulating foam for water pipes and foil lined it with a foil tape. It does a decent job of seeing inside the Marans eggs.
I’m also trying to get some eggs to fill in the spots left from my duds. If not the 7 that are left will have to do.
Of the eggs that were duds I started collecting them on 11-28. After a week in incubator from this hal I scrambled them up for the chickens to eat. None exploded.
As to the cool down you had I’ve had broodies leave their nest for what I thought was an excessive amount of time and they hatched.
Cool down cycle is on my incubator. One hour a day from day 8 to 18 will increase hatch rates a bit.

In other words, cooling is good not bad!

We are gathering winter provisions for winter. The pasture grasses stopped growing. All the local hay has been cut and baled and fresh, dry & ON SALE.. Been hauling it from all 4 corners of the county. Placing it in storage w/o a tractor.. "Round rolls".
Processed our Rooster flock. Prepping 3 swine to go to process. Castrating young boars. Modifying one of my breeding houses for my new Blue Austrulorpes. On top of basic chores and duties...
Fun times!

What kind of bator.. My little giant 9200 is set on 107.5* F and my aux meter reads 100.9* F..

It's a Little Giant too. This is my 3rd season using it. I know it gets horrible reviews, but the only time i ever had a temp jump, was when the temp increased outside last yr unexpectedly, and my bator ran to 108.outside temp increased inside house temp in turn increasing bator. It was just a few hours and the hatchrate was normal.but this time was not weather related.

I'm gonna candle tomorrow night, as it'd be 48 hrs after. I would think i'd see bloodrings if they died. If this hatch gets cooked, i'll be out the nyh, but still have eggs i'll be setting again anyways.

The key word being USUALLY. My incubator has FINALLY stopped stinking from my bad egg venture. I had one blow up in the cabinet while I want home and hubby had no clue what the smell was. Our bedroom stunk for a couple days lol
I am so sorry about that! The smell is terrible. When I was growing up, the dogs broke a bunch of rotten eggs under our house. Mom tried spraying lysol on it. We spent a couple of days at Grandmas....
