Great name! Is he a pet or for dinner?
Well the general idea is to raise some, I have 2 that are 8 weeks and this one so far..... they are all crosses. We will see if all of them turn out to be Toms then yeah 2 of them will be invited to dinner...... I am hoping that the other 2 are hens and this one is a tom but knowing my luck they will all be one gender.......lol

The 2 first pips, weren't even the first hatches! First 2 chicks are out, and quite a few pips in this bator! Other bator i hear peeps..come on! I just lost my andalusian mommy, so counting on these 3 white eggs to hatch!
That is so common! Pip and then get lazy is what they seem to do. Usually a different chick will pip and immediately zip; beating the first one to pip out

Ugh, my first one to pip yesterday around 5 still hasn't made any progress. It's malpositioned as it pipped near the wrong end.. but it clearly popped through the membrane so theoretically it can breath, but I don't see any movement. On a brighter note, we've got 3 fluffy butts out, and a couple more zipping right now! Yay!
I had noticed that when they pip wrong end it takes much longer because they pip strait outside with no internal pip meaning that with a normal internal pip they take up to 24 hrs to make an external pip and then up to 24 hrs to hatch so these guys have longer to go between internal/external pip and hatch.

I ordered a girl but hubby kept making boys! They are wonderful men.
We both woukd have liked a boy but we are happy with whatever we get! They are a gift eiyher way and happy with two girls if that's the way it is. My husband is not so excited about being over powered by 3 girls but he says he will cope:lol:

I lmao because from spring to summer I have up to 8 brooders going. Bi-monthly hatching. It is a full time job (cleaning). Very time consuming. It seems like they get dirty as soon as I make it to the last one, I'm starting all over again. A very viscous cycle.. Thank goodness they sell pretty quick in the spring.

I FINALLY saw what you meant.... I see these 10 *helping* one of the questionable eggs open up..... and it looks like they *helped* another one open overnight... quite a bit of blood (I don't think it was really ready), so it might be a good idea to take these fluffed ones OUT and give the other eggs a change to hatch alone!! :D

We're leaving them all alone. The ONLY thing we'll do is remove the shells once the chicks are fully detached, since I had a chick cut her toe on a shell in a previous hatch.

It looks like I may have to put the first 2 into the brooder sooner than 24 hours, since they are climbing ALL OVER the other eggs.. sounds like friggen chicken bowling in the bator!! :gig
That is nerve racking to me.. I call the "soccer players"..
I am very hands on. As soon as they can stand.. I snatch them out like a Hawk grabbing a field mouse. I place them in brooder number "one" to finish drying. As soon as the are dry and moving about, I have another brooder (#two) pre warmed for the little dudes. In the end when the weaker/slower ones hatch, the occupy brooder one.
No soccer players on my watch. That's just me.
There are some who tell me I should not open until they are all done, but others whom do what I do as well.
To each their own.. GBA!

I think, if the final 5 have a chance to hatch, I'm gonna need to get the rough stuff outta there... including the soccer players! :kau

When I assist, I stop when liquid or blood appears. Also I start with the shell. Create an opening before I tear back membranes. Like peeling a banana 3 times. I try to do it near a heat source as well.

I do not let them stay in too long either. I wait until there are two or three to move at a time and try to not move when there is one zipping.
