There's not much information online about this breed.
From online sources I've read the cocks can grow 2' tall. At maturity cocks weighing up to 10 pounds and the hens to 7.5 pounds which may be the uppermost ranges.
I'm thinking they are related to Minorcas as the Google page says they were also called "French Minorcas" but were bred in the Barbezieux region of France and became a distinct line. But honestly not real sure.
There is a conservation group called "Aspoulba" Association poule de Barbezieux that was formed in 1997 to save and bring back the breed. However I don't speak French.

This may be the Google book your referring to which tells a little history on the breed. https://books.google.com/books?id=X...tHDic#v=onepage&q=barbezieux chickens&f=false

From being around my birds they are flighty and scare easily. It may be that they are still young and could grow out of this. I try to work with them and sit in the coop. Some will jump in my lap but the majority of my flock don't want much to do with me, that is until I have treats.

My barbezieux eggs didn't make it, two look like they started. The rest were clears. Transit was too rough.

Looks like I have to try again - 0 out of 5 - had three eggs that were clear and the two that started quit - one around day 10 and the other around 14. Another person who bought eggs from the same breeder 7 out of 18 hatched for them. So that means eleven didn't hatch out of 18 - less than 40% hatch rate, hope the breeder believes me and sends me a few more eggs. Let me know if you decide to sell any fertile eggs in the spring.

Chonsey. Sorry to hear you had no luck. Shipped eggs are such a gamble. That is if they were shipped.
If you can buy chicks to ship it would be better. They seem to be a hardy breed. I haven't lost any birds yet.
I haven't a clue at what age this breed begins to lay. So it will be a surprise when they do.
I'll keep you in mind for eggs.

Got my R-Com incubator and the breeder is sending me more eggs! Had 4-7 polish eggs hatch out shipped from AZ, they unzipped quickly and hatched a few days early. They marked the box do not x-ray, live embryos, keep this end up. So I'm hoping my Barbezieux eggs have smoothe & safe transit. Learning alot!
