A bare spot on my hens back,what can i do?

One of my hens has a bare spot on her back right above her tail feathers. I think it from being mounted to offten by my rooster,also there are a few scratches on the spot? Is there anything I can do?

1) Get her a "hen saddle" it is a protective cloth strapped to the hen to prevent that, or, 2) Get rid of the rooster.

Often bare backs are caused by a rooster favoring a hen too much, a rooster being with too few hens or in too small of an area with them, or a rooster being too forceful.


The bare spot will grow back next fall when she molts.

where can i get a "hen saddle" because we love are rooster, he is part of the family and my wife and 4yr.old son love watching him forage and strut his stuff! so i think a saddle will be best!
