A BEAR DESTROYED MY COOP WHAT DO I DO

Stop gather yourself. Don’t track him he will be back. Shoot ONLY if he is in the act don’t go chasing him in the woods to put it down.
He left his phone here. He’s quite compulsive so I’m kind of powerless to do anything at this point. I don’t want to go search and be the one shot. We boarded up the human door last night. At the time I thought there was no chance he’d come back tonight. Thank God we boarded it up.

All I can say is if he does shot him while the bear is not in the act you will be in a boat load of trouble if caught. Therefore do not say a word on your husbands results to anyone!!!!. Good luck

I’m sorry to hear this. What a night! What a morning! I’m sorry some of your flock was killed!! And I’m sorry that your not getting much traction with the game warden.

bears are so big and powerful, it’s surprising.

I know you are planning to build a bigger coop, more fortified, later. Perhaps in the meantime, you can build a sturdy fence around your chicken coop -large enough for whatever size new coop you build. The fence will be a sturdier structure to apply the electric fence wire to it. This way, the electric fence cannot be knocked down or bypassed so easily.

I think he walked over it. Presumably he just didn’t touch it with any sensitive parts of his body it’s lowest part is about 6” from the ground and the tallest is about 3’.
You'll need to make it higher...do some research on what level helps deter bears...those step in posts looked flimsy (for a bear) to me but then again I'm just looking at a photo.
I'm trying to help...so don't take the criticism in a bad way.

I am so sorry. How terrifying. You need to use tposts and solid wood corner posts and build a proper fence. Make sure the wire is TIGHT. Not sagging at all. Did you bait the fence? You can hang tin cans from the wire and put food in them. He will be shocked. If he is now tearing into other buildings your home may be next. Shoot him of you can. This is a learned behavior and he will not stop. Put a proper fence up for more bears that may be in the area. I know you did your best with the time that you had. Hard lesson learned. Best of luck :hugs
