A BEAR DESTROYED MY COOP WHAT DO I DO

I don't know about bears, but I put a motion light up and the predators got used to it and it didn't bother them. I like the idea of also having some kind of noise too.

Is this the same system you have? Honestly unless it's right in my ear it's doubtful it would wake me up. I am a very sound sleeper. However, if it could scare things away, I'm still down for that. A friend suggested putting a baby monitor in the coop and the receiver next to my ear to wake me up, so I may get both systems! At this point, I don't think I can go overboard in the amount of precautions that can be taken.

We have determined the bear has quite a large radius, but takes the same route every time. While we don't know the extent of his territory, he hits us up ever two weeks approximately, and immediately goes to our neighbor within the next 1-2 days after visiting us.

Do you have electric wire up? If you do and bait it with some peanut butter or bacon and you can get the bear to touch it with it's mouth or nose, I'm sure it won't be back. I have discovered with my cameras that most predator do use the same routes and have routines. I had a coyote that showed up here on camera quite often. I knew it was the same coyote because it had an injured right front foot.

I put bacon grease on the line, but it probably needs reapplied. My dog learned real quick not to cross the fence! I tried to keep it unplugged when the dog is out but my boyfriend forgot. It was a good thing really because she always crawls under when it's off to eat all the chicken poop which is so gross.

Maybe the bear tested the wire and knows it's there. I had been seeing a skinny fox around. One night around a month ago I heard something connect with the electric wire around the outer coops around midnight. I'm pretty sure it was the fox. I was seeing it pretty much nightly but lately rarely. I think it's a young fox now on its own and thought it was going to have a chicken dinner.

Unfortunately we didn't know part of the fence had come into contact with a wooden fence post which pretty much eliminated the power at the coop. I learned a valuable lesson to do regular walkabouts to check the fence.
