We lived in Anchorage....one of those stuck there by force military families. I cried all the way there, cried when we were getting off the ferry, insisted they were going to throw me out in the woods and let a grizzly bear deliver my baby (I was pregnant with my youngest then).....and then I cried when we left and wanted to go back.

I will visit again some day. Honestly, I miss having moose in my front yard.

Ahhh, yes. My best friend is the same way. I'm sure someday they'll go back to her hometown, then she'll start crying about how she misses AK.

It is amazing how it grows on you...or you become one with it or something. As much as I was shocked to find that Anchorage was just a real city....no dog sled traffic jams as my brother used to joke about to me....it feels different. My boys miss it even more than I do. To them it is more "home" than Arkansas.

We will definitely have to go back....it has been too long since I saw REAL snow!!!

My husband will most likely get to go next Spring for Arctic Care (the Medical personnell from the military goes out into the bush and does exams) and he is so excited.

I know, Mahnori......some will. I choose not to unless I have no other choice. I know where she is and we can peacefully live with her.

Glad I put them on here so you can show your kids, Jolyn.

I think it is so important for them to know what to look for. Even then, however, my kids know they are not to get close until I verify they have correctly identified a spider/snake/etc.

We get amazing cross spiders here. I had one outside my bathroom window for the longest time. "Charlie" (short for Charlotte) always had the most intricate webs. I was always sad when a moth ruined them. The problem here is when you walk out in the morning to find that a spider has created a perfect orb web THAT YOU JUST WALKED THROUGH. eeeewwww! Then you have to do the "where's the spider dance" as you frantically strip the web off your body.
