Wow, a bee-heart!Happy Valentine's Day!
This was a swarm we captured 2 years ago. It came from an old locust tree.
Ordered my bees yesterday! Two packages of Russians with queens, they should be here the end of April or beginning of May, depending on the weather. Now I have to start two hives!
I want bees !!!!!!!! 
We are hoping that the temps get high enough this week (upper 40's - 50's) for our bees to do cleansing flights. I need to see how many hives are still alive. We went into the winter with 19 ~ The beginning of Feb they were all still buzzing.

You must be doing the right things at the right time to get those results. Most beekeepers loose around 20% over winter.
We changed the way we went into the winter this year. Last year we lost almost 50% of our hives which was the local average.
In the past we had never treated for Varroa Mites ~ this year we did. The highest causes of winter losses has been attributed to Varroa. We also made sure all of the hives were heavy with honey and had a good amount of bees going into the winter. We did combine a few weak hives with strong ones in the fall and will do splits in the spring ~ if it ever gets here.
Good choice ~ Russians. We try to get them when we get bees. They are more mite resistant and a good choice for the northern states.
I have a 10 frame Langstroth hive.
