How do you move a bee hive a short distance (around 10 feet)???

I have recently transferred a swarm of bees into a hive (thanks for those of you who helped!) and right now the new hive ("The White House") is at the location of the old hive.

The location where I want the White House to be is only about 10 feet away.

Do I move it at night, all at once, when no one is out? Or...do I move it just a short distance every day?

Thanks!

I would move the hive 5' over, then move it another 5' the next day.

Thanks JP

Also, the hive is about 3 feet off of the ground right now (It's on the cabinet the originally hove was in; to cover the old entrance)

--When I move the hive 5 feet, should I keep it around the same height, or will it be fine to be lower? Does anyone know?! Thanks!

I got the hive body of my first top bar hive completed today and will post pics soonest. My bees will arrive any day, they were supposed to be shipped out on May 11th. Can't wait!!!

Unfortunately my bees decided to pack up and leave! :0

So now I am back to the start. How much does a swarm of bees usually cost? A local bee keeper sells swarms for $45-is this considered cheap?

Lower is fine for the move. You also want the hive fairly low in its permanent spot. If you start too high you'll need a ladder yo work them.
