Thought I would share a few pictures of mine. They started laying this week.

Has anyone had any problems with their Biefelders being sensitive to cold or anything else? I have several breeds all same age all together but the Bielfelders just aren't as stong and I have lost over half. No apparent problems but weightloss despite eating normally. I saved the last one by letting her sleep with me for a few days.

My Bielefelders have had no problem with the cold. They are laying just as good now as they did when it was warmer. None have died or had weight loss problems. They have a metal coop to go inside, it has no insulation. Temperature wise it is a couple degrees warmer than outside. The water still freezes inside the coop when it is cold.

My younger ones from a week old to a couple months grow a little more every day. They are in a brooder. Only the smaller ones can get underneath the box with the heat lamp. Same deal, water freezes inside the brooder when it is real cold.

Hi DC Chicken: I have just started reading about the Bielefelder breed and am wondering about the egg size and production rate? Could you comment on the average size of the eggs (really jumbo?) and about how many you get in a week? I am more interested in this than in the weight of the birds. I understand they have a good disposition and that is important too. In the past I have purchased off of e-bay but had such a bad hatch rate I am looking to pick up some eggs from someone close to give them a try but before I do that I want to find out more about the egg production. I think they are a lovey bird to look at but pretty is as pretty does produce. I am interest in a real assessment on the breed instead of someone that is trying to sell me something. Any comments would be very much appreciated.
