A Bielefelder Thread !

I'm a lucky one too. Not only has my husband bought me two self-contained coops, one 10'x10'x6' cage, and one condo with a powder-coated steel run, but he also bought me an entire cabin to devote to my chicken habits, plus most the power tools and wood I've used to create pens, runs, roosts and nesting boxes.

Wow! Your DH is very cool! BTW, My DH doesn't like to let me roam around Home Depot - I get myself into all kinds of trouble. Last week I told him that I really need a drill press - to drill 5/8" holes through 2x4s for the portable chicken fence supports. The 12"galvanized nails will be hard to put into the ground without those holes!

One year for Christmas, I built him a bar with tufted faux leather, a bar top that I made myself, kitchen cabinets, countertop, and a little fridge that we had hanging around the garage!

I wish I had the kind of space that you do... my neighbors are wonderful, but it is just an acre!

I need to share the latest pix of my little Bielefelder Roo, Kaiser. He is 10 weeks old.

and my girls Jessica on the left, and Schnitzel on the right. They will 1 year old on June 22, same b'day as my DH.
.

What a handsome young man! And the older ladies are SO pretty - I just love this breed!

I had to smile when I looked at the landscape. I lived in Arizona for 6 years. When I first moved there I was shocked. The desert was brown with cholla as far as the eye could see. I cried worrying about my horses. I ended up loving the desert, it is amazing and really so beautiful. Mesquite, Palo Verdes, Cresote bushes. My cactus favorites, Ocotillo, Hedgehog, and Saguaro! Do you have DG on the ground?

Love the chicken set up! So nice!

Decomposed granite. Gets hard and sparkles a little, makes a nice yard in the desert.

Ah. No, we don't. Truthfully we really haven't put much money into landscaping, other than having a few retaining walls built and one slate pathway to our front door installed, and that was a serious indulgence. We just let the natural desert foliage have it's way and release the chickens to control overgrowth.

I have a little Biel pullet. I found her sleeping in the oregano, head down, one eye is closed, no other signs of any kind although I would say she has not eaten anything her crop feels empty. No sores like Avian pox. Any ideas?
