A Bielefelder Thread !

I just hatched some out from shipped eggs from eBay. 2 hatched basically totally brown. Does that happen with these sometimes? Seller says they are pure with no chance of any mixups. Also some of the darker ones still have yellow head spots. Are those female?

Wow! You do have some darker ones in there. I can't answer your question about the totally brown ones. I didn't have any with my orders, but I'm not experienced enough to know if that's common or not. Hopefully, some one else will hop in and help you with that question.

The ones with the chipmunk stripes are female and the ones with a yellowish or whitish spot on their heads are male.

I have noticed some of mine are more grayish, others are more brown and reddish and even others are more golden. I'm going to try to keep track to see how the chick coloring relates to adult coloring - if at all.

Enjoy! They sure are cuties.

I moved them all out to their official coop on Sunday! They've been loving the space.

The only one who isn't in that pic is Eddy. He's just a tiny bit smaller than Publius, who BTW swallowed one of my earrings whole. Good times. :3

And yes, that one on the block is a RIR. She was "returned to the store cuz she had a crooked beak." :tongue I out her with them because they're similar ages.

I am so excited to have found this thread! My sons and I hatched our first set of Bielefelders about 2 months ago and are thinking of hatching some more. From our first set we got 5 males and 1 female. We are hoping to get a few more females this hatch around.

The newest member of my flock, Lila. I had a broody australorp sit on 4 eggs (rest were mutts and didnt hatch). She couldn't have hatched at a better time - I lost my biele hen Rose just a few weeks ago. The broody rejected her, and so she's getting special treatment. Gonna see about getting her some friends from theisens tomorrow.

I lost one of my bielefelder roosters.... he was a little droopy and spent most of his time in the nesting box his last couple of weeks. one of his girls was broody and sitting on eggs so i did wonder if he was keeping her company.....Luckily I was able to hatch some of his babies before he died. The girls are still healthy and laying.
And I have more eggs he had fertilized in the bator now..... I have another rooster but I don't like him as well as the one that died.
