A Bielefelder Thread !

Lol yep snow in middle Georgia! We only get to see snow every 4 or 5 years! The roosters get along great with everybody they are not aggressive at all. The egg size is prob a grade A large. I average 5 eggs a week per hen.

I have 9 bielefelder eggs starting their second week in the incubator. I have at least 4 that are developing. It's hard to tell because they are dark and some are porous. I figured I would be tell any quitters by now so that I could start the auto-turner, but no. (The auto-turner only works with 7 eggs). I am very excited to see how these go. My husband is working on making a bigger and better coop. :)

They sound very similar to my Malines.
The Bielefelder hatching eggs I ordered have been postponed another week. I understand there are fertility issues from the unseasonably cold winter we've all had. Must be patient...

More than just coincidence... If my memory is working properly, I believe that one of the breeds used to produce bielefelders were cuckoo Malines.

We love our Bielefelders they are so confident looking and such great egg layers so far. Possibly the best looking egg of all our birds and such a nice color.

not the greatest pictures but its all I have right now

For those of you that have raised the Bielefelder from chicks, when did you move them outside? They are just so large they are quickly outgrowing their indoor brooder! They are 4-5 weeks old now. I think by next week we should be hitting 50's - 60's during the day and around 40 at night. Can I start to wean them down to the colder temps and move them outside at 6 weeks old? There are 10 chicks so they pile pretty well at night.

We move ours from the brooder room to the breeze way in the barn as soon as they get fairly feathered out but always by 6 weeks at least. Usually around 4 weeks. Some folks put them on the ground at 3-4 weeks, we wait till around 6- 8 weeks. Just how we do it.
