A Bielefelder Thread !

So my 1 month old Bielefelder cockerel is SO calm! Is that normal for this breed? I pick him up and he doesn't kick or jump or try to get away. When he was smaller he would always stand on my hand if I was giving the chicks treats. I can't believe what and easy going guy he is. I love it!

I have 15 rare breeds. The Bielefelders are by far the gentlest roosters. The only downside is that hens seem to get more "rooster damage" than most of the other breeds (similar to English Orps).

I have 9 bielefelder eggs in lockdown right now. Two of the eggs have moved! I'm so excited! I was really worried about this hatch because an egg exploded very early on (day 2) and I was worried about contamination but I have high hopes! I know not to count the chicks before they hatch but fingers are crossed!

Good Luck! Keep us posted! What was up with the egg explosion on Day2, never heard of one doing that that early? Yuck !
