A Bielefelder Thread !

My babies are getting big!








They change so quickly! Before you know it they'll be crowing, chasing and laying eggs.

I want to build a new roost like the one below from mcmurray hatchery. Is the horizontal spacing enough for a full grown bielefelder? I was going to use the full 15" horizontal spacing, but maybe they would need more? I dont want to build it then they poop on each other

That's an interesting question! Can't wait to see what the consensus is...
 
16" should be plenty. I think I built mine with about 16" horizontal and about 12" vertical spacing. My birds are grown now and have no complaints.

I used these numbers as a guideline for the roost I built in my Bielefelder pen and for the most part there's not much of a problem, but occasionally I do see poop on one of them. I also gave them a 4 inch wide shelf at the top of the roost and most of the girls crowd onto that, piling on top one another, and let the boys have the roosts. Silly chickens.
