A Bielefelder Thread !

I would say the Biele's are invading the Northwest big time!

My cockerel is learning to crow. He sounds nothing like a chicken..... more like a rogue elephant.

I love when they start crowing. I've got at least half a dozen all trying to crow at the same time. It sounds like someone handed out kazoos to a bunch of kindergartners and let them loose in my back yard.

LOL..... this boy just has one note and believe me if you are on the other side of the house you would swear it was an elephant. I have an older Am that has a decent crow, three CLs just learning but to tell the truth they aren't as bad as the CL crow reputation and then...... there is the Bielefelder. I love him, everything about him, he is so sweet. I lost an Ameraucana to a hawk last week and I think the hawk grabbed one of the B pulllets first, probably too big to carry off

but her head got pretty banged up and I think there is eye damage, one pupil is very big but I have strayed off topic again. I started telling y'all about her because after I picked her up and doctored her she follows me everywhere and talks to me all the time. As you have said before, they are so trusting!

RedBanks. Sorry to hear about your hawk troubles but glad your biele hen is alive. Just wondering what your Biele sounds like when she "talks." Mine sounded like grumpy- like she was complaining about the other hens. I could always tell exactly where she was standing by her distinctive grumpy noises.

Yes Faraday40..... she grumbles and walks beside me. Maybe she is complaining about her injuries. The other Biel pullets don't really pay attention to me except at bedtime, I just think she is grateful that I tried to help her when she was in pain..... as odd as that sounds.

Oh, bless her heart! And I agree - animals do tend to know when you are trying to help. Never forget the lion and the thorn!

I am so glad to hear that other people have Biel girls that talk! My favorite Biel, Gretel, sounds like she's holding actual conversations with me sometimes. My son overheard one of our "chats" when I would hold Gretel and ask her questions and she would make sounds in response and he swears it sounded like she was actually trying to form word responses.

She makes these funny little honking intonations that sometimes even sound like questions. And she grumbles about some of the more amorous cockerels in my yard on a regular basis, as if she's scolding them and talking smack. Seriously...I can translate her grunts into, "Giiiirlll...that boy is just no good and needs to learn to keep outta my business...Like I would even choose him when I've got these fine roosters over here..."
