a billion to one shot...

Wow, you're very clever to think to do that! So glad to hear that you saved that little pup.

I did not see any tearing or bleeding of the tissue that was outside the abdominal cavity and I was VERY careful and gentle in putting it back. There was very minimal serosanguinous drainage, maybe two drops total under the saran wrap. The puppy is nursing and eliminating normally. I put her on antibiotics 2x a day for the three first days prophylactically just in case my bleached finger contaminated her. I think she would be at a higher risk going to a veterinarian office with all the diseases there than just staying home as long as everything remains normal. What would a vet do besides grope around in my checking account as far as his arm could reach anyhow? The wound is healed, the puppy is behaving normally, no sign of distress or lethargy... If you were a vet, what would you do? Say money was no object and a person brought in a puppy with that history, what procedure or treatment would you recommend that would improve the puppy's quality of life?

What an awesome job-- just plain old good common sense-- you used what you had on hand and have a great result!!
I've got no problem with folks running to the vet with any little thing, especially if they can afford it, but sometimes it's just as good, if not better to take care of things at home. Pup is in his own home, with "his" own germs and has very little risk of infection.
Good for you!!!
Can't wait to see the little fella!

Wow, talk about quick thinking! I had a beautiful Boer buck kid that had the same thing happen but because he was born out in the dirty barn, there was no way to save him. The intestine got covered in...well you know what's all over a barn...before I found him.

Great job!

Good job.

Here, with the farm, we do alot of our own vet work. It's gotten so the vets hate emergency calls from us.
