Alpujarra mountains, Spain
We live in a tiny mountain village in Spain, and because the Spanish rarely have their cats spayed or neutered, it is home to many feral cats. They seem to survive very well on lizards, grasshoppers and rodents, and are skilled raiders of the rubbish skips. Although wild, they are clever. They recognise the hoot of the fish van and wait patiently in the square for it to wend its way down the mountain and into the square. In return, they ensure that the village is a rat and mouse free zone.

Joe and I are familiar with this particular cat because of her china blue eyes and Siamese looks. We’d noticed she was pregnant, but we certainly didn’t expect her to give birth in the street right outside our front door.

I had the camera handy, and managed to record what happened next...

Very cute. You are sweet to have taken such good care of her in her time of need.

Thank you!

Yes, Mum is really pretty. Beautiful eyes and she's an excellent mother. I wonder how the kittens will turn out? They are doing really well so far, although one is much smaller than the other two.

Thanks for the nice comments. This particular cat is a little tamer than the others, but I was amazed she let Joe carry the box and didn't freak or jump out. We feed her in the cemetery (see video link above) and she's always ravenous.

The kittens are 4 days old now and very lively and noisy. They're safe from dogs but... I'm just praying they won't be found by anybody who doesn't like animals as much as we do.

I have a feeling this story isn't finished yet.

Keep your fingers crossed!

Momma cat is very pretty. I wonder what the babies will end up like.

You are a stronger woman than I. That cat and babies would be in my house and I would be the crazy cat lady of Spain. Thankfully no one wants to dump cats at my house. I only have the four and all are boys (and fixed!).
