A bit of an emergency for the Two Old Fools

I just finished watching the YouTube! That was the most adorable collection of kitten antics I have ever seen! Thank you for posting it Victoria!

It's their birthday today. Nine weeks old! *sings* Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy birthday naughty kitties, Happy Birthday to you!

*whispers* Don't tell them they're going to have nasty injections on Friday...

PS Did you see the other YouTube of how they were born? Again, better with volume.

Hi

16 weeks - that's excellent, a true model really, of how best done. After surgery I would let mama/mum rest for a good couple/few days before they're all over her and even then, for short periods at first (you will have a sense of how she's feeling). It would be good to have her see them in those first days so she doesn't worry about them, but just hold them in your arms or lap near her. I wouldn't let them suckle for some days, because mama's stitches are vulnerable and her abdomen area will be sore. If for any reason you think she isn't fully recovered in strength after birth and nursing (it is an enormous drain) then consider waiting a bit before surgery, another major strain. Mama cats expend enormous energy in the making and caring of their babies. If she's strong and energetic then probably okay. She would benefit from being on the highest nutrition food right now and/or vitamins (kitties are so finicky about what vitamins they like that I can't say what she would like - I have one cat right now that likes Pet Naturals from Vermont, another that went crazy for Hugs and Kisses vitamins from Warren Eckstein (thepetshow.com), and yet another that refuses everything I try! Sending many many good wishes!
