A breed that you love but would never own - mine is...

X2. I only own one Spitz but I don't notice too much of a difference between her and my other chickens. She's certainly more active but I don't see a flighty bone in her. But yes, she is able to 'fly' if that's what you want to call it. She can get a few good feet before gravity takes over.

I have been toying with the same idea!

Haha I toyed with the silkie idea last year and most of this summer, said I wasn't gonna get them, and now look!!!

Welcome to the dark side LOL!

Just a quirk of mine--I don't like leghorns. We had a roo when I was a kid and of course the first job you get as a child on a farm is gathering eggs, that sucker jumped me everytime. I also don't paticularly care for the "Wild" chicken breeds, the ones that look like jungle fowl, I prefer my chooks to be fluffy and I love the breeds with feathered legs. I love it when my Cochins run across the yard, they look like they need to pickup their skirts, remind me of pantaloons.

Breeds I have but won't have again-Wydonettes. Loud to the point of obnoxious. Love the 2 I have but won't get another.

I love the looks of the Golden Lakenvelders. I will probably never own any though, my customers like brown eggs, and they are flighty.

Others I'd love to have, but probably never will (cuz they are not available here)
Blue Columbian Brahmas
Blue partridge brahmas
Chocolate Orps (although it looks like these are coming, with people trying to import them)
Croad Langshan (gotta have a purple egg laying chicken!!)

I felt the same way before, but now I only have Asian games. I have never handled mine but I could easily tame the roosters to a point where they will allow you to pick them up. I have found the hens are a lot more skittish than the roosters, but what I really like is the fact that a mean rooster is unheard of as far as these birds are concerned. I tend to have a pile of roosters at any given time, and I can say this, they are excellent with the hens and young chicks as well. For me the biggest problem has been that the hens go broody all the time. They lay a clutch of about 8 to 15 eggs, and then they go broody. I have also found that their broodiness is easy to break though, simply by denying them access to the nest during the day. My one hen always lays about 10 eggs and then she goes broody. I go in and shut her nest box, abd boot her backside out the coop, and by the next day, she's forgotten about being broody. The only thing is, it then takes about a week before she starts laying again, at which point the cycle repeats itself:lol: Great if you want meat on your table, but not the greatest at providing breakfast eggs. The way I intend getting around it is by having a few extra hens. Right now, I have five, and yes, three are sitting on eggs, and one has just hatched her chicks two days ago. So, with only one hen free, I'm not exactly getting many eggs, but if I look into the future, I see a very well stocked freezer

To keep us in eggs, I reckon I need about ten hens, and btw, when they are laying, they tend to give 6 eggs each per week.

Another big plus, is that the Asian games are very capable of finding their own food. Since I started free ranging mine, they eat almost no feed at all. In fact, 2kg's of feed lasts me about a week and a half, and that's with 14 birds and one duck, and it's the duck that eats most of it

Sorry, forgot to mention mine are all hen raised birds, hence the reason why they're not very tame. Only my head rooster is tame, but he is used to being handled as he was used for fighting before I took him, and what a wonderful gentleman he is

I need to stick with good egg layers, and will for 98% of them, but I think the ones with those gorgeous tails are just after my heart. I think I was a gypsy or something in another life, because if its long, flowing, sparkly or fluffy I AM THERE!! I don't need bantams either, but they are the sweetest little things . . .I want to be able to sell enough eggs to just buy their feed, not greedy at all. I just love the idea of having my own eggs and some to sell to other people to show them how wonderful these eggs really are. Pigeons and quails intrigue me as well.

I love Game chickens! I don't want wild birds right now, but one day I plan to get some more Game chickens and let them roam wild
