This our third year with the same golden comet going broody. Each year it gets a bit worse...She is my oldest and doesnt really lay anymore (4-5 years old) I try to pull her off everyday to make sure she uses her legs and eats/drinks but I have 6 others that need to use the nest. I do not have a rooster but a friend said she would give me fertilized eggs to hatch. (I have no room for anymore lol) I am just really concerned with how she will nest almost all day. What should/could I be doing for her? *nutrition wise*
Our golden comet just went broody. She is hogging the nesting box and all the other hens are just smashing in there with her, which is only making her only more broody with all those eggs!
My poor husband found out the hard way. I was feeding everyone and i just hear him shouting "she's growling! Chickens can growl?! She's growling!!" Poor baby even stuck his hand in there to get the eggs she was sitting on, cracked three eggs, broke our maran's first egg and got bit in the process.
I was surprised to see one of my Golden Comets sitting on a nest. There's an 8 foot long nesting box and all the hens have decided that they want her spot. I guess all that chick watching in the Bantam pen got to her a little...lol.
