A BYC CHANGE OVER REALITY. All need to read.

I don't know about anyone else but I find it sooo much cleaner and easier to go through. and to quickly find what I am looking for. I ABSOLUTELY love this new platform. I am not afraid of change, and this was a huge plus for BYC, I am amazed though the site was up as fast as it actually was.

I think all those responsible for coming up with all the new ideas for this new platform did a great job. Love it!!

Thanks to all,

Ema

You know what makes BYC...BYC? It's not the platform - it's the Community feel of it's members!

Adjustment takes time. Learning something new takes time. But through it all BYC is still a great community for all of it's members.

Know how to post and reply and you're doing great...all the other bells and whistles will come with time and practice. Kind of like when I get a new phone...as long as I know how to make a phone call, I'm good with taking time to figure out everything else.

I want to thank all the members who helped us test this platform and who are out there on the forum helping other members find their way. You guys truly ROCK!

The transition was tested four times before the real thing on a very limited basis. So some glitches where expected and prepared for. Having said that a full scale move was one of those.

Because you never know what can happen at that point.

I also apologize if people perceived my comments as "mean" or "abusive" to staff. I think that those of us whose systems don't have the resources to handle all of BYCs upgrades, however, are going to continue to be disappointed. I'm disappointed that this is the way it is, but as far as "blaming" staff... they are trying their best to make this a good transition. The new features are great... my computer just can't handle them. It takes anywhere from 16 to 27 seconds for a page to load (yes, I have timed it with a stopwatch), or to go to the next page in a discussion thread, etc. That alone makes it very hard for me to be on here because I usually am on at work & cannot have any other windows open (including my work window) when BYC is up. Expressing that doesn't make me mean or abusive... it is what it is. It uses too many system resources, and that's not "mean" or "abusive"... that's fact. Those of us with older, slower, less resourceful computers, people on their iPads and other Android phones and other mobile devices are not able to enjoy the quick and easy navigation we once had, and expressing that isn't "mean". It's reality, unfortunately. It doesn't mean we do not appreciate the efforts of the staff to make this place even better!

So in that vein, thank you to the staff for all you do to try to make BYC a good place.

It's still the best place to get information about backyard poultry and lots of really good folks, hands down.

Mea Culpa.

I did complain a bit about the new "auction" format......only because I was suffering from serious withdrawals....2 days without auction-watching was obviously too much for me.

I apologize and have edited grumpy posts.

Interestingly, the new BYC works better on my desktop than on DH's laptop.

I completely agree, that the ONE major thing everyone that is having problems and complaining about them should try to keep in mind... is that BYC changed because it OUTGREW the old software format, it was going to implode, crash, go down, FAIL on us... as in POOF no more BYC!. Would you rather have no BYC at all at this point? Seriously???

While I'm sorry to see so many are having issues adjusting to the new change, I'm really bothered to see that there's so much negativity and complaining going on... where's the patience, understanding and respect for all of the staff members who have busted their behinds to keep BYC up and running in the past and those that are pulling their hair out now trying to help the transition along? Come on you guys, cut them all some slack. It's day 1. DAY 1, not the end of the world!!!

When you first joined BYC you did not know how to use all the bells and whistles, you had to read instructions, ask for help, do without for a while etc until you were able to either figure it out or someone helped walk you thru things. A lot of us lurked and just read the posts before we felt it was something we could handle. Same situation now, just a new era... you just have to re-learn some stuff, change a few things and do some updates. BIG DEAL! If you wanna support BYC and be part of the community, then ride out the rough spots, there's plenty of helpful people here, and everything will eventually get worked out. Have a little faith in Rob and those that are diligently/tirelessly working with him to make BYC what it was, what it can be and what it's meant to be, they deserve it!!! They are doing this for us, and for BYC as a WHOLE.

Everybody really just needs to chill out, lighten up, take a breath, RELAX and BE PATIENT. Read a little, do some poking around, send some PMs to a few friends that maybe can help you etc before flying off the handle about this and that and posting negative messages. Yes you are frustrated, confused, lost, annoyed etc, a lot of us are... but think about how you would feel if you were in the staff's position right now with negativity flying at you from every direction. If it gets to be too much for you, shut the PC off and walk away for a while. Go clean the coop or something, geeze!

BYC is still here, so are your friends and family, just give it a little time. I personally am very grateful for the change, and the future of BYC being important to its owner/founders and staff. So I say... Good job to Rob and all his staff!!! Hang in there you guys... I know you are getting alot of negative feedback presently, but there are a lot of us that really DO appreciate all your hard work (and will in the future), and we sympathize what you are dealing with right now!!!!!

And for those of you who feel differently... Chastise me for this post if you feel the need, but deep down inside what I've said here will sink in, eventually :)

Chill pill peoples, chill pill.

Hhandbasket...you may want to try cleaning out your cookies and temporary internet files...that helped mine quite a bit. I also restarted the computer to clean out some clutter.

It isn't an old computer that is likely the issue. A good part of the testers use WINDOWS XP. It is the browser and that can be upgraded at no cost and without changing computers to a newer one.
