A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Foghorn is 100% Cx. Ive watched him attempt to breed, but he is just tooooo big and awkward. I have one surviving hen that is in the general population. She is about the same size as him but is alot more mobile

OMG R2elk!

Whats with you guys and these monster roosters?

JR and I have been on another thread for a couple years and we have been doing things with "meat" birds that people said could not be done. There are about 6-8 of us that have be building a better meat bird.

I forget what all he put into his, I know he tried a mix with a saipon or some weird thing. There is a guy from England that has some amazingly fast growers.

I went for birds with bigger thighs and legs that were turkey sized at butchering time. Without being so old they were inedible.

That is where the name TOAD came from. I had said I was making some Cornish crosses and adding to them and some guy went nuts and said I could not call them Cornish crosses. I being semi stubborn once in a while said if I cross a Cornish cross to a Cornish cross to me it is a Cornish Cross...

Anyways he was going to call the copyright police or someone so I named them frogs. then lizards and Toads are the current generation which is 3/4 Cornish Cross and 1/4 Rainbows ( both are mutts) so actually I have a mutt) That tastes great and gives you a drumstick big enough for a real man to eat...

So that is my story of the huge roosters we raise. Mine get the same height as a 6 gallon water fount in about 12-13 weeks but it takes another 8 weeks to fill them out. At 20 weeks you have a 15 plus pound bird. That is about as large as they get dressed. I want to get a 20 pounder in less that 26 weeks, but I may not be able to pull that off.

Ralph, i knew you were bettering the meat bird market. Didn't realize JR was doing that too. So JR...you have monster chickens & midget turkeys? :D

I really like my midgets.lol I hope they live up to their reputation. The ones I have now will be my foundation stock. Is it just me,or does anyone else believe the turkeys are smarter than the chickens?

The Royal Palms...... have decided the hood of my truck is a good spot to survey the landscape. Mr.Red Rider bb gun is starting to change their mind...
They have figured out(like the dogs) what the rattle of bb's mean. The bb gun is older than Methuselah and won't throw a bb very far,it doesn't hurt as much as it startles. I had one of the boys shoot me to make sure.lol
