A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

LOL!
Seems like Ralph had a field day when I asked.lol
:lau:lau I'm sure he did :lau:lau
And the beards. All of my hens have beards
Mine too, I had to post pix for you folks to help me figure it out, and I had a hen in the bachelor pad:th:barnie
I've still got at least 6 broodies. I would have thought the eggs would have exploded by now. Think its been 5 months...
So far, I've been lucky mine haven't stayed brooder for more than a week or two...:fl:fl
You had to say that, didn't you???

Read that and I heard an egg explode here... :(

OH! I HATE it when that happens, since I've been following your advice I haven't had any more explode...:wee:celebrate

If you recall, I went down that path along with fanning too... :hit
I cannot remember ever seeing a tom do the horizontal tail fan but all of my hens do the horizontal fan especially when fleeing from an imagined danger.

I started paying attention and looking for the horizontal tail fan among the poults. At a very early age some poults will do the horizontal tail fan (especially when fleeing from an imagined danger). So far all the ones that did the horizontal tail fan at an early age are exhibiting all the other characteristics that are traits of a hen.

I can't believe how supportive DW has been with this craziness. She's taken charge of the bator as she'd be perfectly content if chickens, etc never got older than 3 weeks. She's processed broilers in 30 degree weather--I'll never do that again... I have 9 week old chickens that need to go to pasture--but I haven't made their house yet. With all the rain, the hill is just too slippery for me to get my trailer out to go get the materials. After I do get it out, i'm gonna rethink where it stays. I'm very lucky!!!! :old:caf:pop

You're right! I hadn't thought of it before--but all of my hens can fan horizontal or vertical, my toms vertical only. Hummm...:oops::oops:

Here's one I don't know how its going to turn out. My adult roos are deadly to baby roos. there's a roo in my mentor chicks that just went to pasture with the adults. I just went out and checked on them and the baby turkeys have encircled the mentor chicks and peck at the roo if he comes anywhere near. If the roo pecks back, the adult turkey's intervene. My top Tom landed talons in the back of the roo after he went after one of the offending turkeys. I'm learning every day...:caf:cool:
