A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Are you just worried about lifetime/quality of life?

If so, no worries... I have a tom that has BB genes, huge... his brother's dressed out weight was 32lbs at 7 or 8 months... one I still have is a year and a half right now... he'll be going to a new home Sat, but he is perfectly healthy, just huge... doesn't roost and has permanent calluses on his feet, but no issues...

That's exactly my main focus. I haven't tried to weigh him yet, but he is considerably heavier than the other turkeys. Nor he is destined to be dinner. lol Very good to hear that you have BB crosses that are doing well.

So far all are roosting even though Tommie's favorite place seems to be on top of a covered metal drum. All are still able to jump/fly up on the sheds and trees. It's impossible to stop them - even with clipped wings.
:he

Yesterday, one hen got on the wrong side of an eight foot fence and I had to go rescue her. Thankfully, the others just kept talking to her and didn't try to join her on the other side. The two toms got on top of the shed (12 feet) and watched me go get her while the other hen kept her company on this side.

It's a good thing that no one is a wanderer and all stay pretty close (so far).

Flash...your right time will tell. But 3" diameter leg is sizable! What part of the leg did you measure. How old is he?

I measured at the top of Tommie's leg in the thigh where it joins his body. In comparison, if you are looking at Iron's legs from bottom to top and not counting the shank and foot, they look about the width of a paint stirrer stick that has a bend in it. You cannot see any real discernible difference in the progression to "thicker" or meatier.

@casportpony
i dont think its bad enough for surgery but you need to remember that their pus isnt liquid, it is more like cottage cheese and hardens. That lump is a lump of hardened pus and it needs to come out somehow
i would keep flushing that eye with saline, if you have any of the optic antibiotics (like what you would get if you had pink-eye) you can give that too

also check his choanal slit and make sure there is nothing stuck in the there

Looks like a sinus infection, and I agree, surgery not need yet. @yoopergirl1211 , is this a pet or for meat? Either way, I think you should try some oral antibiotics because the eye ointment is unlikely to fix this.

Not sure yet on the pet/dinner. Was actually leaning towards selling with an extra female before this started. I think I have 3 other males in my little flock already. Vet prescribed antibiotic or is there anything over the counter I can get? I honestly can't count how many times you've been called in to help me lol. Thank you. Your a poultry saver!

What did the vet prescribe?

Nothing yet. I have a chicken with a really bad infected leg and the only vet I can bring her to is gone till next week so I've been trying to figure out what else I can use till then. Same will go for this guy. Ive been researching like crazy but theres just so much info out there I am struggling to figure out what to do. I have a great feed mill near by that has a lot of meds but not sure what to grab.

Finally got pics of him this morning. This is before I cleaned him up so you could see. I've only had turkeys for 2 months so I'm not super educated on typical ailments.View attachment 1113149 View attachment 1113150 View attachment 1113151

I had this is same thing in two poults this summer... I had never seen it so I called my USDA Vet and self reported it..

She put a hold on my selling birds ( if you recall in early june I think it was)..;);)

I am gong to see if I can find the picture of mine..

The state vet and her were sure it was MS. Which is a flock destroying disease. They came out and tested all my birds and ll was clear.

It must have been a sinus infection of some kind. I used terramycin and it went away in week, I know it had to be bacterial because of how fast it cleared up. I had separated the two to stop the spread...

I can tell you the product I used looked a lot like something you would use to stop scours in calves..............;)

I'm guessing I should be able to guess what you used lol. We just got our first calves this week so I'm not sure what meds you use for that. We got them kick start but nothing else yet lol.
