A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Also, the poops from 2 of them looked completely normal and didn't see any more yellow foamy piles in the coop. Still will dose them all in their drinking water.

One last question: should I find a vet to write a Rx for some metronidazole or order some online?

Can you give corid (in water) and metronidazole (orally) at the same time?

Sorry I hijacked the thread with poop talk.

So today none had yellow poos. Still going to give corid and I gave them more cayenne-coated mealworms just in case it helps anything.

You can give both at the same time. Metronidazole is quite bitter, so it must always be given orally, never in water.

So looks like I killed turkey chat:confused:

Anyway, no yellow poops found today. Mostly solid and 2-3 splattery watery poops but no foam look.

They're still on a 28% protein diet, should I switch them to a broiler/grower feed soon?

I made the mistake of leaving a dog carrier in their coop but makes for easier poop pictures...

How old are they? The recommendation is turkey/gamebird starter for the first 6 weeks followed by grower. I normally feed mine 28% protein turkey/gamebird starter for the first two weeks and then switch them to 24% turkey/gamebird grower for another 2 weeks. By that time they are either sold or are mixed in with the rest of the flock and get what they can forage for and the same feed as the rest of the adults.

So I remembered they're on a mixed blend of 28% starter and 20% chicken grower so based on the ratio of feeds in the container it's probably sitting about 24%-25% protein.

I'll get 18/20% grower for the next bag of feed and slowly mix it in to lower protein levels.

They're just at 8 weeks and outside but not free ranging yet.

Mixing chicken feed with turkey feed is really not a good idea. The turkey feed has different added levels of nutrients than the chicken feed. We all talk about the poults, keets, and pea chicks needing higher levels of protein but it really isn't all about just the protein levels. It is also about the higher levels of vitamins such as thiamine and niacin and methionine that you are diluting by mixing with lower quality chicken feed. The worst habit is mixing in medicated chick starter with non medicated turkey/gamebird starter. This dilutes the medication which is now no longer at its optimum levels thus making it worse than ineffective because now the targets may develop a resistance.
