I have two young hens laying.I believe they are 11 months old, and eggs seem normal sized. I ate the first egg from both.I placed 3 eggs since in my bator. one on the 9th,12th and today. I will keep putting them in there till its full. I also have a two year old hen that hasn't laid yet
I have a second bator I use as a hatcher and a 3 lvl brooder/grow pen.Ive had good success selling poults.
This is the plan anyways. I just need to figure out how to get the Quail eggs in there also.
My grand children love all this farm stuff and I do it for them and its also Fun.![]()
That might be true, but if you don't incubate the pullet eggs, their chance of survival drops to 0.I dunno where i read that. But it said to wait til their eggs were the size they should be when fully grown before tryin incubate or givin to a broody. It was that the chance of survival was increased in the larger egg pretty much i think. We did eggs from our chicken ladies a month ago and they did good. But their eggs have been large and xl for many months now so i figured what can the worst thing be.... nothin hatched kwim.
No I do not store the eggs. I date them. and on day 24 maybe 25 I will place them in the hatcher. As far as having different age chicks in the brooder, Ive never had a problem with it.Do you store the eggs any before incubation so hatch is not strung out?
Not sure what type of incubator you have but could you get an LG type Turner and split the normal rails with a quail rail every other One. Then you have room for both?

Living in orlando Heat has never been a big issue with turkeys or chickens. I did have a problem with my first hatch of Bobwhites. Those little buggers require constant heat from a light if I keep them out in my barn.
I have two Genesis 1588 one has a Gqf 1610 turner that can hold 35 turkey eggs I may buy a second turner,if I'm over run with eggs. and buy a 3rd cheaper bator for hatcher.
My desire to hatch Quail eggs may force me to buy a cabinet incubator before its over

Her and the kids sell the eggs and now she wants to sell birds.I just love the fact they are doing something besides playing with a electronic devices for a few minutes.![]()
I have not hatched large numbers only 20 to 30 and so far I've never lost chicken or turkey. I put my eggs in the hatcher as their date comes up and when they hatch I take them strait to the brooder and clean there shell mess up right then. With just a few birds its really not any trouble to me. If i were doing a bunch I would be looking to save time. That's cool. Wasn't to concerned with multiple age chicks in the brooder I have those all the time. More about mess in the Hatcher and having poults hatch every couple days.
I'm going to try and set eggs weekly on Thursdays. So poults are ready and hatched for the weekend.
Those cabinets are nice. I bought a 1502 sportsman. Major upgrade in size and hatching numbers.
But it increased my hatching addiction. Now I have 2 more cabinets and a dedicated cabinet Hatcher.
I've not had a problem with Bob's brooding them. But your right if they get chilled they are gone. But pheasants they are my nemesis.
Oh No!!!!Ralphie, you'll enjoy this... Remember a couple months ago I dodged the bullet on a water leak???? Bullet hit me square in the forehead yesterday. 8 gallons per minute bubbling up in he middle of my paved driveway. Plumber wasn't smiling when he left today. ARG
ETA: He drilled a couple holes and water sprayed up and out of the holes.
