A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Little harsh there.

Just the way I do it. They move into the convent for a couple weeks then they visit the hotel for a week. I have two hotels so basically takes two weeks to pair the hens with their toms. Then I collect eggs for a month for incubating. Basically 3 batches of ten days. I generally try to get them into the convent before they start sitting, but was late this year. The only truly reliable way to control who breeds who, is to isolate them before they start the breeding season, but this approach makes me feel better. I need to setup better breeding pens, but haven't gotten around to it.
Oh gotcha. Thanks for the explanation. Good luck with your breeding!

Oh and Welcome to the thread, and BYC...

I might have missed it, reading comprehension not being my strong suit as noted...

How many birds do you have?
I have 10 chickens (2 buff orp, 2 RIR, 2 EE, 1 unknown, 1 FBCM, 1 welran, 1 white leghorn), 8 chicken eggs (7 OE, 1 unknown) in the bator due this Thursday, and 10 poults(6 red bourbon and 4 Narragansett). I got 10 in the hopes I could get 3 by thanksgiving cause everything I have read pretty much says they like to die. So they won't be pets.

They don't die, and they will be pets is my guess. Very few people can resist the charms of a turkey.

Today i need figure out a way for hubby to WANT to risk life and limb to candle eggs under the two broodies.. The lil sg is a nasty lil thing but i bet she will be a wonderful maman. Yea i DO actually know how to uhm entice him..... but we have son the middle and his omg wife and the grand here so THAT way is a no go. Lol! No fun. So ideas? :lau. Thought bout chuckin a towel over the girls and see how fast we might lose digits. :fl. We both already look like a bad scene from texas chainsaw massacre from friday... separated rabbits and it was warm so we both went out sans sleeves and gloves..... boy THAT was a mistake. After two rabbits each we both saw the err in our ways and fixed it but the damage was already done. And i think rabbit claws rate up there with a pissed off cat. They hurt for days and days.

The only problem with that is I live in a neighborhood in CA. I'm moving them to a friend's pasture once they get big enough. So he is more than welcome to keep a breeding pair but I doubt my neighbors would like to see a turkey in their yards. Haha. I do have a 6 ft fence around my yard but I heard that's nothing for a turkey even with its wings clipped. So unfortunately me keeping them is not in the cards while we're at this house.
