A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Daisy almost killed me this evening! She had flown out of their yard & was sitting on my backporch. Came blazing out the door & to avoid stepping on her I lost my balance & half way fell down the steps. Sort of caught myself on the railing. As I was sitting there getting it together...she plopped down next to me like nothing. And poor Annie, who doesn't know she can fly, was crying & pacing the fence.

Oh I remember the mottleds from last year! As much as I love the sweetgrass & the penciled...I think mottled is my favorite. I like the spots. Love tu he dots on my SS and my merle aussie dogs.

Let's all meet at R2elks!! Come on folks!!
I finally got my first turkey egg on last Friday, and so far I have 5. I'm planning on setting this coming Friday everything I have gotten, as there are more requests for turkey poults than chicks often times. So it will be more than a month until I can bring any poults, though I doubt I'd have anything unique anyways in comparison. The tom is red bronze, there are 2 burbon red hens, a Royal Palm hen, and a red bronze hen.

I had been getting 4 to 5 turkey eggs daily up until a few days ago (4 or more). At that time the eggs dropped to two a day. But.. I was having to put a couple of hens back in the pen on those days. Today I managed to notice when one of the turkey hens was missing. After a brief search I found her as she was covering her nest of 9 eggs. There were definitely two different hens using the nest.

The eggs have been replaced with a fake egg. I will be setting 4 1/2 dozen eggs this evening. Do to Mr. Picky being how he is, I will not be surprised if 90% of the eggs are infertile. If however there is a high percentage of fertile eggs, I am going to be in a lot of trouble if too many hatch. Memphis might have to take some of them off of my hands as I am sure there will be some Tri-Color Mottleds both blacks and slates.

I know the Blue Slate hen is laying fertile eggs.

Haha sounds lile my lil escapee hen... every other day she WAS escapin and visitin the hay buggy. The last three times she has went out she goes up in the woods behind paul’s shop. So i gotta follow her this week to see where she has picked for her perfect nest spot. Eesh! Silly hen!

Things have been pretty rainy around here lately, so the turkeys (and I) aren't up to much, but I did run a turkey fashion show a few days ago...

I cut my breeding tom loose with her, but I think he was more interested in admiring the saddle than he was in breeding...
