A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Beautiful! DH went to WA to visit his son. Said he’d go buy me some poults if you had them available, but your place was too far out of his way. (Pout)

Do most folks clip their wings?
That is too bad. I have two yearling Sweetgrass hens that I am about to advertise for sale.

I have a new poult tonight. It is from the eggs that I salvaged two weeks ago when my oldest hen was killed. I thought they were due Saturday. It is good that I put them in lockdown yesterday. I see another egg is pipped.

If I have some that are causing problems, I will clip one wing one time. Most forget that they can fly by the time the feathers grow back. This normally only happens when there are no mature birds around to teach the youngsters not to go where they shouldn't.

Hahaha. I wish my adults would scold the kids for not flyin amok... alas they do not. That is why i clip a wing. And i do it once too. Last year i had two hens that refused to not fly after that. So i just let them do their thing. They would go tootin round the yard for a while then back in their space. Mama had a jerk dog that got one hen and a chicken in a day.... he left this joint. Thank goodness. None of the other dogs give a hoot bout the animals.

Mine get to stick their beaks in a container of BOSS when they go into their coop at bedtime. So they pretty much just get a beak full. But they expect their snack & trot right into the coop & wait for me. It's easy with just a few birds, can't imagine doing that with a larger flock.

Not a problem here.....The stupid turkeys only come down from the rafters to eat. The seldom leave the building. If they are outside and I go into it, they all run in to see what I am doing and mainly to see if I have something for them to eat.

For some unknown reason my turkeys are foraging much better this year than they have in the past. Even the tom is taking time out from strutting to forage. Of course, the cold spring has really reduced the miller and grasshopper population.
