A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I had a Sweetgrass hen sitting on a nest and thought the eggs were due to hatch Thursday. When I checked on her tonight she was gone and there were at least 11 empty egg shells. I candled the remaining eggs and found one alive and internally pipped and one maybe. I gave them both to the Blue Slate hen that should be hatching tomorrow.

I accidentally found the missing hen sitting out in the open and not hiding like I thought she would be. I got the brooder ready in a hurry and took time out to snap a picture of a 2 year old buck in the driveway. I grabbed a bucket and went back to the Sweetgrass hen. When I got close enough she stood up and there was a whole passel of little Sweetgrass poults under her. They completely filled the bottom of the bucket I had. There are now 14 Sweetgrass poults in the brooder. The Blue Slate hen should hatch number 15 tomorrow.

Sorry, no pictures but they really looked cute in their green bucket.

Hills above me are on fire... gonna be a long smokey night!

Skipper...where do you live? That fire is scary!! Hope all will be ok!

R2elk...I was afraid the missing hen would have a tragic ending! But how cool to find mom and all those bug eyes! She just let you collect them? Of course with that many, I wouldn't be surprised if she helped you load them into the bucket!

Trimurtisan! I'm really enjoying this young Walker! Mind you I've been competitive with Australian Shepherds for a looong time. Wanted a challenge. I consider the coonhound my mid-life crisis. What a fun dog he is! Packed full of quirky personality! A huge training challenge, but quite a gentleman. And boy are they deceptively strong! Like you...I love listening to him! I want to get his hunting title so I've been training with one of the local coonhound clubs. The best part is just listening to the baying bouncing off the rolling hills in the distance. I'm such a novice they threaten to put the GPS collar on me! I will say it's not the dog for everyone. But I'm sure enjoying this overgrown baby!!

So anyone else lapper training? Ralphie? I'm making progress with mine! My penciled is at the point that "she" comes over & stares up at me. The mottled is a little more reserved, but let's me pick "him" up. Their juvie feathers are in. The penciled is stunning, the mottled a bit more "unfortunate " but I can see his feathered potential! Daisy has developed the habit of sitting on my chairs arm while I'm holding a poult. She fine with it as long as she gets a bit of attention!

I live in Provo Utah. So far so good. We have a trail that's right above my house thats acting as a natural fire break. It's a little close for comfort but seems to be fairly in control. Thankfully we haven't had any wind or anything like that. If it jumps the trail I may be in trouble but I'm not too worried about it. That picture was from driveway on 1x haha so you can imagine it's a bit close lol!

Stay safe and keep a close eye on it.
