 Just sharing pictures of some of my favorite birds. They have grown out nicely.

I ended up parting ways with my only Fall Fire jake. He attacked me in the goat lot and we had planned on butchering him. But my friend wanted him so off he went. My birds are not imprinted. Aside from feeding/watering and general necessary care, I do not handle them. He is just mean.

 I will have to get more recent pictures of my red sweetgrass jake and my Sweetgrass hens.
 
So leave the silver skin and get rid of it after cooking? That is the short cut I was kinda hoping for. Lol

I pressure cook my roasts to make them tender and then add in the potatoes, carrots, and onion. Would pressure cooking loosen the membrane of the silver skin or cook it up entirely?
I don't pressure cook meat so can't say if it will cook completely. What I like to do with a venison roast is to freeze it, partially thaw it, slice it very thin, salt and pepper and toss the slices in a hot skillet with some oil. Almost immediately flip them over and cook the other side just as quickly. Comes out very similar to the cuts sold as French Dip.

That sounds good! I pressure cook my roasts and then add the vegetables toward the end and the roast comes out fall apart tender. I put a good sear on them before pressure cooking. Pressure cooking saves many hours as opposed to slow cooking and honestly tastes the same as when I slow cook them for hours.

Not sure if it is because they are young still.... but I thought I’d try posting here as well.

I have a group of Sweetgrass turkeys that I’ve been SO excited to bring in, and they are doing amazing!!

Also. I have 2 “outliers”....
There are minor color development discrepancies between the other babies, but these two appear to be different varieties.

I don’t -really- care at this point, they will stay here at least until I know for sure what I’ve got. But. I thought I would ask if anyone has any ideas what variety these babies might be.

Photos from yesterday. We were clipping wings so it was a good time to grab some pix.

Pic 1 is one that appears to be a blue/ dilute phase of some sort

Pic 2 is -almost- like my Holland Whites, but has notable “red” on its head

Pic 3 is one that I believe to be developing “normally” for the Sweetgrass variety.

Any thoughts are welcome. And, of course, I’m not expecting any guarantees lol
How does the bird in pic 2 look now? Harvey Speckleds are white with a red head as poults. I am curious to see how the bird is growing out. Did you get your birds from Porters?
 
I, for one, am appreciating all of the talk of grit. I’ve been wanting to put my poults and chicks on it, for their own health benefit. I’ll probably try sand, since that seems to work well.

Also, question to anyone who may be able to answer it? Does split bronze/black winged bronze down coloration look any different from homozygous bronze down coloration? I know black winged bronze looks different, just curious if there’s a noticeable difference in a poult’s color from standard bronze, should it have both genes, or if it’s tricky to tell.

That would be a good question for @austria89 . I would say there isn't a variety or a cross he hasn't encountered.

My poults have been eating the grit, not tons of it but I watch them pick up a piece here and there. Smart little buggers. My grown birds go ham on sand as grit. Lol

I have two that ended up white w blue eyes in the end, no remaining visible red....
The Tom is a big guy, and has grown very quickly.

The blue Sweetgrass is also growing well, and everyone else is as they “should” be :)
