A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

my yearling hen did the same thing. she is on full time now but is still laying eggs. shes on day 14 and shes still laying. will be taking all the new eggs from her tonight after candling them.

I'll have to look for that, she didn't lay today but like clockwork is off, I don't expect her back on until this evening..

just let me know. they are due to hatch tomorrow i think. and i think i have 10 eggs. i should know by saturday how many i will have

I am in Florida, I do not like it here,. I miss my JJ and Ethel,,

I am allergic to this heat.. I want to go home... poor me,,,

MY DW says I have new babies, I cannot tell you what or how many. She says one died, I am blaming her...

I think I have more hatching in next couple days... I might have over done the hatching,

I wish I was there with them.

Have gotten what's left of my hens back into their pens.

A few have resumed laying. 7 eggs in carton waiting for a few more will fire incubators back up.

But have had a couple more losses. One elusive hen to an owl. And my chocolate tom dead under roost this morning.

But with all secured predatation losses should subside.

10/10 will shoot the owl near me if it kills my turkeys.
What are the chances of it killing my turkeys if I free range them? Right now they are chocolate poults.

Owls tend to take the poults off of roosts at night. I have never lost a poult to an owl during the daytime. As long as you keep them in at night they should be safe from owls. I have great horned owls around and they have never bothered my adult turkeys.

Good luck.

R2elk is right my losses from owls were at night. I lost several poults and a couple adult hens.
The owls never touched my adult toms.

If I can find the owl. He will get permanently rehomed.

So if uou poults are secured at night they will be fine to range during the day.

A century??? Why cant it be for just a year? Like last year some one had the turkey talk thread, and this year, so does another. i think its more fair for a person to get it for 1 year and not get it for a century. Just my honest opinion.
