Ralph- Thank you so very much for drinking in my honor! I have been enjoying mint juleps... Derby day and all. Not that I watched the race. Or wore a fancy hat. I went to soccer games and played with turkey babies.

I too am so sad I don't have JJ and Ethel babies. Next year. I plan to have a whole flock of them. I am so in love!

Divorce is on hold for now... seeing as he let me spend way too much money on turkeys.

And congrats on getting a new incubator next year! I am so excited for you!

Also, last night, I could hear the wild turkeys calling. They must know I have babies. I want to lure them to my ravine...

It's too light colored to be a blue. So you are all set. Maybe that will give you chocolate slates if you have a pair??
 
I found Ethel's nest!!

I walked the woods, had 4 ticks and found Ethel while I was looking for Guinea eggs. I did not find any guinea eggs, but I saw Ethel hunched down under a fallen tree. If she comes up to the house, and is not broody, those eggs are mine. My DW is not in agreement on this, She says I should et Ethel hatch them. I say Ethel can hatch her next batch.

MY splash hen is broody. I went in to get Bert's baby eggs, and saw 2 turkey eggs on the floor, I did not collect eggs for a few days hoping one would go broody. Then I found one egg in the alternate nest. So I only got three turkey eggs so far today.

I got no guinea eggs, they have figured out I was stealing them from the chicken coop, that means the guinea gulag will now hold guineas again along with turkeys.
I still want more guinea and turkey eggs before letting them go broody. I am considering not letting the guineas ever go broody as they are such bad mothers.

I will get a picture of my "blue" soon, maybe you can tell me if you think it is a self blue Silkie, I think it is.
 
For the first time we are eating a turkey egg. I got a double yolker last week, and today it become omelet.

We were amazed how think the yolk is and how thick the egg whipped up. I can see why it make fancy pastries. If you do not hear from me again it means turkey eggs are not edible.

I can't vent sex anything but waterfowl. If you post closeups of legs & snoods I may be able to give you an educated guess on genders.

Post away. Been raising blue slates for several years now so getting pretty good at picking out lavenders.

I only have 1 palm hen & she's in with a red slate tom. Thinking she should throw 3 colors : black mottled, red mottled & blue mottled...but not positive...so we shall see.
 
Guinea Gulag is complete, sort of. I need to dump dirt around the bottom to hold the wire down and help keep predators from tunneling in. I have wire that comes down the sides then makes a 90 and goes out about 18-24 inches. I put dirt over that to lock the birds in and the fur bearing critters out.

Here are some pictures and the first residents. I am afraid I might have ruined my broody moving these three. She got upset and left her nest during the confusion of moving the three slates. They did not go willingly.








The one below is the broody splash before I upset her.



The new prisoners below:

looks good! what netting did you use? looks pretty small. in the process of building a coop for my few birds as well but i got the heavy knotted netting. i was afraid the thinner stuff would break if they tried to fly into it..but idk
