A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I'm so sorry she didn't make it :( in the spring, I should have some poults if you want a couple. They can ride the chicken train to you when it rolls through.
Thanks for the offer. I'm hoping to get a couple new girlfriends for T-Bone. Would like to get Sweetgrass but they are kinda hard to come by round these parts. Might get a blue slate as that crossed with sweetgrass and than bred back to the cross males some really pretty turkeys.

That is everyone's plan,,or should be!

About half the turkeys went into the turkey house by themselves tonight. I think all but 3-4 would have but I opened the door to fill their feeder and startled some and they left.

I had to run them in but they walked right in without any prodding like good little turkeys should!

So unfortunately the guy we were supposed to be getting a hen from today decided to butcher all of his birds for thanksgiving. We had offered to pay him live weight for a hen (which would have been a far better deal for him), he said yes and then butchered them all. I am so bummed :( I think I'll just hold off on any plans for more turkeys in the immediate. I'll keep an eye out for hens that are old enough to tell what they are - but I am not getting my hopes up again right away. On the upside we did get our tgiving turkey from the turkey butcher - so that's looked after, and none of my babies are on the table. On the downside, I won't get to eat any of the darn turkey....I have to run home for a family illness. Freeze my butt off and no turkey - will manage to have missed both Canadian and American thanksgivings being in the wrong country for both.

I guess I now have an excuse to start watching for slate hens to improve my color selection :)
